The footbed upper surface is coated with a proprietary non-porous polyurethane layer 0.3 mm thick that prevents the absorption of acrylic paint, oil paint, linseed oil, ceramic slip, and resin epoxy into the EVA foam substrate, allowing complete cleaning with a single wipe of the standard studio rag damp with mineral spirits or water. The anti-static surface resistivity of 10^8 ohms prevents static discharge that could disrupt computer-controlled laser cutting and vinyl plotting equipment in mixed-use creative studios. A contoured forefoot support ridge of 5 mm height positioned at the 55% foot-length mark supports the foot during extended ceramic throwing postures where the body weight shifts repeatedly forward onto the metatarsal heads during centering motions. The outsole maintains non-marking performance on sealed concrete, hardwood, and vinyl studio floors at all walking speeds, preventing the black streak marks that rubber-compound soles leave on light-colored studio floors.
